Where Scotch Whisky Heritage Meets Modern EV Charging

Introduction

Lindores Abbey Distillery is a renowned Scotch whisky destination located in Newburgh, in Scotland’s Lowlands whisky region. Situated directly opposite the historic Lindores Abbey — widely regarded as the spiritual home of Scotch whisky — the distillery offers visitors a unique blend of heritage, craftsmanship, and modern production.

Since beginning distillation in 2017, Lindores Abbey has welcomed visitors from across the UK and beyond, offering tours, tastings, and the opportunity to explore the historic grounds where whisky’s story began.

As visitor numbers grow and travel habits evolve, Lindores Abbey partnered with Connekt to introduce EV charging, supporting sustainable tourism while enhancing the overall visitor experience.

The Challenge

As a popular visitor destination in a rural setting, Lindores Abbey Distillery recognised the increasing importance of EV charging infrastructure.

Key considerations included:

  • Supporting a growing number of visitors travelling in electric vehicles
  • Enhancing the visitor experience at a heritage tourism site
  • Reducing reliance on off-site charging options
  • Aligning with sustainability and environmental goals

The solution also needed to be financially viable while maintaining the integrity and aesthetic of a historic location.

Installing EV charging was an important step for us in enhancing the visitor experience and supporting sustainable travel. It has also given us the opportunity to begin moving our company and personal vehicles over to EV, which is something we’re really pleased about. Connekt managed the entire process, including securing funding, making the whole project straightforward and efficient from start to finish.”

Key benefits include:

  • Convenient on-site charging for visitors
